The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RAPPLER , Maria Angelita Ressa, 55, was arrested by elements of Pasig City Police Station Intelligence, Warrant and Subpoena Section under the supervision of Pasig City Police Chief PCOL RIZALITO G GAPAS at about 6:30 AM of March 29, 2019 at Terminal 1, Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Pasay City.
In a report reaching PBGEN CHRISTOPHER ESCAÑO TAMBUNGAN, District Director, EPD, Ressa was arrested upon her return from USA for her personal business.
The charges stemmed from a complaint by the National Bureau of Investigation which narrated that CEO Rappler violated the Anti-Dummy Law for issuing Philippine Depositary Receipts to a foreign investor Omidyar Network.
After her arrest, she was brought to Pasig City Police Station to undergo booking procedures at Pasig CPS Warrant and Subpoena Section and thereafter to the Regional Trial Court of Pasig for the return of warrant of arrest and the posting of her bail. Thus, Ressa is now temporarily released from the PNP custody.
The arrest was based on the directive of EPD Director, PBGEN CHRISTOPHER TAMBUNGAN to Pasig City Police Chief, PCOL RIZALITO GAPAS to intensify operations against wanted persons in line with the thrusts of PGEN OSCAR D ALBAYALDE, Chief, Philippine National Police and PMGEN GUILLERMO LORENZO T ELEAZAR, Regional Director, NCRPO. ### -JMN/Pasig CPS
